56 days left, and a stack of postcards on my kitchen table
Subject: A stack of postcards, one page of instructions, 45 minutes
Two new pages went up on the website this week. There is one thing I need from you at the bottom.
What I Did
Friday night I was at First Friday in downtown Delaware, and Saturday and Sunday I worked a couple of the farmers markets. Those are the conversations I like best. Nobody is there to talk politics, so when someone does bring up traffic or a new subdivision, they mean it.
Monday night I got to hear Mary Trump speak. Most of what stuck with me was not about her family at all. It was her point that the change any of us want to see in our own communities comes from ordinary people doing this exact kind of work, over years, not from one election.
I also sat in on the commissioners' Thursday session at the Historic Courthouse. County EMS picked up the American Heart Association's Mission: Lifeline Gold award for the thirteenth straight year. One crew stood behind their director for the presentation. A second crew walked out mid-ceremony to answer a call. That is the job.
Joyce and Pat have been working with me on some big yard signs, the large kind that go on high-visibility roads and intersections. We are picking locations now and will need help posting them soon.
From the County
At that same meeting, the commissioners approved annexing 58.4 acres out of Berkshire Township into the Village of Galena.
Annexation moves land from township governance to a city or village, and the commissioners are the body that hears the petition. Going forward, Galena handles the zoning and the services on that ground, not the township and not the county. Ohio law is narrow about what the board can weigh at that stage, mostly things like who maintains a road that gets split by the new boundary. That was the open question here, and it was settled when the Galena mayor sent a letter confirming the village would take the road on.
Small item, but a good example of how land use here actually moves.

Bottom Line
Fifty-six days left, and every one of them is another day to make a little more progress. From here to November 3 I am working seven days a week. Doors, postcards, house parties, the fair, and every conversation I can get.
No Democrat has won a countywide seat here in over fifty years. With enough grassroots effort and a little luck, we take one step forward and open the door for the people who come next.
56 days until Election Day. 28 days until early voting opens on October 6.
